When you decide you’re ready to grow your family, the single most useful thing to understand is your fertile window — the handful of days each cycle when conception is possible.
What the fertile window actually is
An egg lives for about 12–24 hours after ovulation, but sperm can survive several days. Together, that creates a window of roughly six days: the five days before ovulation plus ovulation day itself. Outside this window, the chance of conception in that cycle is very low.
Why guessing doesn’t work well
The textbook says “day 14,” but real cycles vary — between people and between months. If your cycle runs 31 days, ovulation likely lands around day 17, not 14. This is why tracking your own data beats any generic calendar rule.
How tracking finds your window
By logging your period start dates over several cycles, a tracker learns your average cycle length and estimates your ovulation day and fertile range — shown as something like “Fertile window: Jun 12 – Jun 16, ovulation estimated Jun 14.” Each cycle of data sharpens the next estimate.
Keeping it kind
Trying to conceive can be an emotional season. A good tracker informs without pressuring: clear dates on a calendar, no alarms, no countdown anxiety. Femvita’s Trying-to-Conceive mode was designed around exactly that principle — your window, highlighted gently, with the rest left to you.
Important: fertile-window estimates are planning aids, not guarantees, and cycle tracking should never be used as contraception. If you’ve been trying for a while, a doctor or fertility specialist is the right next conversation.
